“North Glasgow College Campus: a confident commitment to the local community and sector exemplar for good design” Scottish Government The new RIBA award winning North Glasgow College campus has had a positive and transformational effect providing increased access to education and training for not only the local North Glasgow community but also for an increasing number of international students that it is attracting.
The new campus has fulfilled and gone beyond the client’s initial brief which was very simply to deliver a new architecture that was both iconic and inviting and that would ultimately inspire learners. The sharp clean lines and bright reflective finishing of the 5-storey building and double height workshop gives the college a real presence and purposefully stands out from the local surroundings. The landscaped south facing main entrance plaza provides a social space complete with benches, bicycle stands and cherry blossom trees.
Internally accommodation consists of a sports hall, learning resource centre, lecture theatre, dance studio, TV studio, large winter garden and cafe as well as a range of classroom arrangements, meeting rooms and administration areas.
