Paisley International Theatre

Paisley, Scotland

We are laying the foundation for a new 'Cultural and Creative Quarter' in Paisley. The ambition for the building is to create a vibrant, diverse destination for entertainment, leisure, and education and providing a launchpad for stage and screen talent and new creative start-ups. The building programme is made up of performances spaces; including a 500 seat theatre, a studio theatre, 120 seat cinema, and 3 x 70 seat cinemas all sharing foyer/circulation space. Front of house accommodation includes a reception area with ticket points, shop and general office, as well as a café bar and restaurant. Back of house facilities include dressing rooms, office and staff rooms along with green rooms and a workshop. An education hub is a key component of the building and this will include dances studios, rehearsal rooms as well as teaching space, and ICT facilities.

The site for the theatre is directly parallel to the busiest railway line in Scotland and adjacent to Paisley's Gilmour Street Station. The ripped city edge is turned into a positive destination whilst super insulating the theatre spaces from noise.

The facility will include external performance space and promenade as part of the new public realm as well as the Glen Cinema Memorial Gardens and a reflection pool.
