Designed as one of the UK’s most modern, environmentally friendly, and sustainable higher education learning environments. The new £54 million Ayr Campus development is home to the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) and the Scottish Agricultural College (SRUC). The campus is a key project in the UWS’ £200 million development plan.
The landmark building’s design complements the spectacular 28-acre parkland and riverside surroundings and has been carefully constructed to minimise disruption to existing wildlife. All of the academic functions have been consolidated into a single 18,000m² building, in order to minimise the impact on the mature park setting and maximise efficiency and shared delivery. The building is formed around ‘garden rooms’: two courtyards and an atrium space, which allows the landscape to enter into the building.
The building has achieved a BREEAM “Excellent” rating.
