The urbanisation of the Pearl River Delta is a dynamic process that has interfered with many natural and artificial processes. The dominance of efficiency-oriented fast development and accompanying infrastructure have put the deltaic social, cultural, and natural environments at greater risk. Our proposals examine how urban and ecological priorities can be combined in more spatially harmonious and sustainable ways.
Our proposals for the Zhuhai Western Expansion have produced detailed plans that have complimentary mixed functions supported, by a highly efficient infrastructure provision. Our proposals detail an advanced ecological urban community that will be both distinctive and respectful of local culture. We believe our proposals are uniquely local yet world-class in ambition.
The primary concept for the whole city plan expansion is to create a green city that is reflective of Zhuhai’s natural environment. The new city expansion will combine the latest urban design concepts and create a sustainable diverse habitat for not only the human community but also the plant, water, and animal ecologies which can successfully coexist.
Thematically different urban quarters were designed that responded to a mixture of land uses ranging from education to industry. Critically the integration of flood plains and farmland was a feature that unites all locations, with local food production mixing with residential and office environments to create new hybrid landscapes.
